This policy explains the reader website’s data practices. It applies to the My Life Story story websites sharing this publishing system.

Your cookie and privacy choices

Optional reading statistics are off until you accept them. Accept optional, Reject optional and Manage preferences are available in the first-visit notice. Rejecting does not restrict stories, audio or My Life Story. Use Cookie preferences in the footer to change or withdraw your choice at any time.

The first-party mls_privacy cookie remembers your choice for 180 days. It contains the preference, its version and the date saved, without a visitor identifier. A local-storage copy of the choice updates other open tabs. Each website remembers its own choice; we do not share a tracking identifier across our branded websites.

Reading preferences on your device

Bookmarks, text size, listening speed, dark mode and auto-play preferences are saved in your browser. A personal-story plan is prepared locally in your browser unless you choose to contact us or download/share it. Clearing browser storage removes these preferences.

Reading statistics

Only after consent, we save a random browser identifier (reader-id) and the last reading date (reader-last-day) in local storage to measure story visits, chapter progression, engagement, completions, listening and return visits. The server stores a hash of that identifier, story ID, site, chapter, event and date. Events older than 35 days are removed when statistics collection next runs and are excluded from current rankings. A daily hash of the connection IP is used to limit abuse; the raw IP is not saved in our reading-event table. Hosting providers may process connection information in their service logs.

Reading statistics are approximate and do not identify a person by name or email. Known bots and authenticated publisher previews on the central website are excluded. We honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control for these statistics, even if a previous choice allowed them. Withdrawing consent stops future collection and removes the statistics identifier and last reading date from this browser. Previously collected events follow the retention period above; withdrawal does not erase those events or hosting-provider logs. If cookies or browser storage are unavailable, optional statistics stay off. You can manage your choice below.

Messages and administration

If you email us, your email provider and ours process your message and contact details. We use them to respond to your request. Administrative sign-in uses ChatGPT authentication. Readers do not need to sign in to read published chapters.

Advertising and services

No AdSense ads are enabled in this release. Reading never requires clicking an advertisement. If advertising or additional tracking is introduced, this policy and any necessary consent controls must be updated before it is enabled.
